TV Tax?!

We just received a bill for 1347.65NOK for owning a TV. This is an annual tax. TVs are licensed here, and unlike PBS in the US where they beg for funds, in Norway they simply tax everyone who owns a TV (which presumably is everyone). Strange, huh?

Is the Olympic XC skiing coverage in Norway like the Super Bowl here?

How much is that exactly...

The tax was about $200US. It is for a little more than a year, since we purchased the TV in December. The TV cost 6000 nok- if I recall, which isn't cheap either.

XC skiing and biathlon are like the Superbowl. The office park has a TV in the lobby that gets rather crowded at times.

It is really crazy if you think about it that a tiny country like Norway often leads the medal count for the winter games.
